NOAA finally issued their press release announcing first year (of 5) of funding for a CA coast wide ECOHAB program comparing Pseudo-nitzschia / DA bloom initiation and dynamics in Monterey Bay (upwelling driven with argo-business watershed influences) vs the Southern Bight (Long Beach / San Pedro, upwelling influenced, with 17M people 'contributing' to the coastal ocean.  Multi-institutional effort with UCSC as lead, MLML, MBARI, USC, JPL and CeNCOOS, SCCOOS support.  We will be running fairly continuous (once trained up) glider transects in both regions and MLML small boats will be used for ground truthing and tracking dynamics of putative offshore HAB bloom patches.
