Specific Research Interests: Application of remote sensing to coastal ocean processes with emphasis on ocean fronts and feature tracking; application of linear and nonlinear analysis techniques to oceanographic time series; evaluation of ocean circulation models; circulation of Monterey Bay and central California coast. Current Projects: (1) Mapping preferred locations of ocean fronts off the California coast using satellite imagery from GOES-10; (2) investigating kinematics and fate of discharge plume from Elkhorn Slough; (3) linear and nonlinear analysis of an 83-year record of sea surface temperature in southern Monterey Bay; (4) developing statistical models to predict offshore parameters based on coastal sea surface temperatures in Monterey Bay; (5) studying intraseasonal oscillations of oceanographic and atmospheric parameters at mid-latitudes off central California.
