Why Give?
Make a Difference by Investing in the Future
From a modest start in a converted sardine cannery building in 1966, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) has gained an international reputation for the quality of its marine research and educational programs. The MLML mission is to "Provision the Pioneers of the Future." We do this through a hands-on, field-oriented approach to our curriculum that places our students at the frontiers of marine science where discoveries are being made. The great variety of nearby marine habitats, the faculty emphasis on mentoring and teaching with integrated research, and the excellent facilities and staff contribute to make this one of the best programs for an M.S. in Marine Science in the United States.
MLML are fortunate to receive generous support from individuals, private organizations, corporations, and foundations. Charitable contributions allow our faculty, staff and students to succeed in their pursuit of excellence in scientific research and education. For example, current and past donor gifts have enabled us to award student scholarships, update research and teaching equipment, fund individual research projects, construct state-of the-art laboratories, expand our library collection, and augment our research boat fleet. With the help of donors, MLML scientists and students have made important contributions to understanding global climate change, human impacts on Antarctic ecosystems, effects of toxic pollution on marine mammal health, age and growth in fishes, evolution of marine invertebrates, cycling of mercury in aquatic ecosystems, and the prevalence and ecological importance of seaweed communities along the California coast.
Your commitment as a donor allows our students the opportunity to expand their base of knowledge through research, scholarship, and public service. Please join us in provisioning the scientists of the future so that we can better understand and protect marine and coastal environments. Your generous support will help deliver our researchers and students to the frontiers of science, ensure their success in the field, laboratory, and classroom, and ultimately involve the public in their amazing discoveries.
Best regards,
Kenneth Coale, MLML Director
