Biography: 

Mary Yoklavich is a marine biologist, recently retired from a position as a supervisory research fishery biologist at NOAAs Southwest Fisheries Science Center located on UC Santa Cruz Long Marine Lab campus. Mary uses underwater visual and acoustic imaging tools to study demersal fishes in untrawlable habitats and the role of cold-water corals as habitat on the shelf and slope off the West Coast. Her research is represented by over 90 scientific publications, the results of which have contributed to the siting and effectiveness of marine reserves for fishery and habitat conservation in state and federal waters. Mary advises our U.S. government on topics related to the protection of fish habitat and corals in deep water.
